This Persian calligraphy invokes prayers that are dedicated to our Prophet Muhammed and Hazrat Ali. I think it reads: "O Allah Give your blessings to our Prophet Muhammed and his great disciple Ali. (The Salwaat) Purify our hearts and souls, bless us all, and group us with your virtuous children"

Dear Nina: JUST IN A DAY: In just one day we saw the sun,The white frost sparkling on the ground, We watched the small cloud in the sky,and loved brightness around- The heavy clouds came from the north, And driving rain or sometimes snow began to fall, The gentle mist, sometimes, along the hill,Turned into fog asnd covered all.-=-IN JUST ONE DAY our lives can change, Just like weathers, sun to snow to rain. The problems gather around our heads, And fill our hearts with hurt and pain. But then the rainbow lights the sky, Harsh, angry words just melt away, And when we find, as twilight comes, Fresh hope is born in just one day. SEEK THY LORD WHILE HE IS ALWAYS FOUND. CALL YE UPON MAWLA WHILE HE IS NEAR.

Dear Nina:OUR MUSLIM WOMEN WOULD BE INTERESTED: in an upcoming program on Vision TV Channel.(Canada). My Heart Is My Witness is about Muslim women from Morocco, Kuwait, Mali, Algeria, Sudan and Tunisia. The documentary, by Quebec filmmaker Louise Carré, airs at 9pm ET/PT on Wednesday, March 8, to mark International Women's Day.For Skalli,a Muslim woman: Islam is more than a religion; it's an identity. The contributors to this celebration of women and Islam build a mosaic portrait of the women who live in the Muslim nations of Africa and the Middle East. The picture that emerges is of vibrant, active women - teachers, engineers, writers, politicians, feminists, lawyers - who give the lie to some western conceptions of women's place in Islamic society. The rejoiner:It was the writer George Eliot(a woman) who said: "I'm not denying the women are foolish.God Almighty made them to match the men."

The Commander of the Faithful – Hazrat Ali (pbuh&hf) is quoted in sermon 86 in Nahjul Balagha as saying: "`Where are you heading (Qur'an, 81:26),' and `where are you straying (Qur'an, 6:95, 10:34, 35:3, 40:62),' since the flags are poised up high, the Signs are clear, and the lighthouse is erected? So, where are you straying? Nay! How can you be blindfolded while you have among you the household of your Prophet? They are the reins of righteousness, the religion's flags, and the tongues of truth; therefore, accord them as you accord the Qur'an and approach them as thirsty camels approach the water. O people! Take this from the last of the Prophets, Allah's peace be upon him and his progeny: `whoever among us passes away, he is not really dead, and whoever disintegrates (after dying) from among us does not really disintegrate; therefore, do not say what you do not know, for there is the greatest truth in what you deny. Accept the argument of one against whom you have no argument and it is: `Have I not dealt with you according to the Greatest Weight (Qur'an)? Have I not left among you the Lesser Weight (Ahl alBayt) and laid firm among you the flags of faith?'" The Holy Prophet(pbuh&hf)said: "My progeny (Ahle Bayt) have been created from the same seed from which I have been created. Allah Almighty has bestowed upon them knowledge and wisdom. Woe be to him who rejects them."

Dear Nina: DID WE HEAR THIS:(1)That all who are happy are equally happy is not true. A peasant and a philosopher may be equally satisfied, but not equally happy. A small drinking glass and a large one may be equally full, but the large one holds more than the small one.(2)Beauty, without kindness, dies unenjoyed and undelighting. (3) We all live together in a world that is bursting with sin and sorrow.(4) Life is a pill which none of us can bear to swallow without gilding.(5)The man or a woman who threatens the world is always ridiculous; for the world can easily go on without him or her, and in a short time will cease to miss them.(6)Nature has given women so much power that the law has, surpringly, given them very little.(7)Those friends who change colors like chameleon,as it suits them, are menace to human bondage.

Dear Nina: IMMAM SAID ADDRESSING SENIORS:YOU ARE NOT RETIRED:THE NEED TO GUIDE THE YOUTH OF THE COMMUNITY FALLS ON YOUR SHOULDERS:I remember a story:The receipe for success- at any age:Some years ago in the USA a man was offered a handsome sum for motel-restaurant-service-station. He'd spend his life building up. He didn't feel ready to retire, so he turned down the offer. Two years later, when he was 65, the state built a new highway by-passing his motel. Customers stopped coming and his money ran out. He might have given in, but there was one thing he knew how to do well--fry chicken. So he took a pressure cooker and a can of specially-prepared flour and set out in his old car to sell his special recipe to the other restaurants. It was diificult at first and he spent many nights sleeping in his car, because he didn't have money for a hotel room. Some years later, however, he had succeeded in building a nationwide restaurant chain called "Kentucky Fried Chicken". The enterpreneur's name was Colonel Harland Sanders. "Are you finding the road a rough one? Then it is time to pull up at the Life's Traffic Lights:STOP complaining--exercise CAUTION at all times- then GO smiling"

"And hold fast all together, by the rope which Allah (stretches out to you) and be not divided among yourselves." [Holy Qur'an 3:103] Thalabi records on his Commentary Tafsir al Kabir from Aban ibn Tabligh that he heard Imam Jafer as Sadiq ( as ) say: "We (Imams) are the Rope of Allah about whom Allah has said: Hold fast to the Rope of Allah ..." In a hadith, The Messenger of Allah - may Allah bestow peace and benedictions upon him and his Progeny - said: "The parable of my Ahlul bayt is that of the boat of Noah, whoever gets aboard is saved and whoever stays away from it is drowned. Hence, it means that whoever follows Ahlul Bayt (The Imams descendend from the Family of Hazrat Ali) will attain salvation and whoever stays away from Ahlul Bayt does not attain salvation.

Dear Nina: THE PASSING OF SALADIN: At the call of the Pope, all Christendom took up arms. The Emperor, three Kings of England, France and Sicily, Leopold of Austria, the Duke of Burgundy, the Count of Flanders, thousands of dauntless warriers of all Chritian nations, the King and Princes of Palenstine, the invincible Brothers of the Temple and Hospital, all employed their tremendous strength to recover the Holy City. But the mighty avalanche spent up its force vainly striking against the impregnable wall built by Saladin and then gradually melted away. Jerusalem was still in the Sultan's hand. The storm over, the Sultan now thought of passing the rest of his life in the calm atmosphere of his peaceful home. So, on the 4th November,1192, he repaired to Damascus among his children. He now yearned for going to Mecca on pilgrimage, but the season was already over and pilgrims were returning. "If I could not go on pilgrimage," he said to himself, "I can at least endeavour to earn some merit by welcoming some pilgrims.".Thus thinking he went out on the 20th February,1193, to meet a caravan of pilgrims. His body was already weak. The season was wet, the roads were streaming after heavy rains, the wind was cold and he had no warm clothes on. That night he had fever. His condition grew from bad to worse. The best medical efforts proved unavailing.

Calgary,, AB. Canada. - Saturday, February 19, 2000 at 11:30:35 (CST)
(2) THE PASSING OF SALADIN: On the 4th March the Sultan's condition caused the gravest anxiety. There was a pious Moulana with him reciting the Holy Quran.Whe he came to the passage:..(He is Allah than Whom there is no other Allah--Who knoweth the seen and the unseen and Who is compassionate and merciful). The Sultan whispered..(True,my Lord). When the Moulana came to ....(In Him do I trust and towards Him do I proceed), the lips of the Sultan moved in a gentle smile, his face lightened up and his soul took the flight. He was buried the same day. He had given away everything and the money for the burial had to be borrowed, even to the straw for bricks that made the grave. The ceremony was as simple as pauper's funeral. A stripped cloth covered the undistinguished bier. No poet was allowed to sing a dirge, no preacher to make oration. When the multitude who thronged about the gate, saw the bier, a wailing went up and so distraught were the people that they could not form the words of prayer but only cried and groaned.

Dear Nina:TECHNOLOGICAL CHANGE AND HUMANITY:(DOOMSDAY SCENARIO) Technology helped turn the world into a global village.Political, economic, and cultural changes now influence people world-wide instantly. Clearly there have been other lifetime in which epochal upheavals occurred; but these shocks and upheavals were contained within boaders of one or a group of adjucent societies. Today the network of social ties is so tightly woven that consequences of contemporary events radiate instananeously around the world.Satellite television and Internet have played the part. The greater priority is to pleasure, spiritual values and moral plummeted. In such world organised religion has lost and losing its power. While spitritualism declined, pleasure seeking became aproprity far out of proporttion to its real value. Now couple living without marriage, unweded motherhood is common, homosexual marriages, abortion on asking, divorces, gamblimg, traffic accidents, pollution, unsaniatry living conditions.Humankind's collective impact is such that mass extinction could occur.People are lovers: lovers of themselves, lovers of money, self-assuming,haughty,blasphemers,disobedient to parents, unthankful, disloyal, having no natural affection, not open to any agreement, slanderers without self control, fierce, without love of goodness, betrayers, headstrong, puffed up with pride, lovers of pleasure than lovers of God,family or friends. This is rise of imperfect human beings.

Dear Nina:THE WORST SOLITUDE:KEEPING HOPE WARM IN OUR HEART: Francis Bacon, the Ebglish writer born in 1561, said:"The worst solitude is to have no true friendship." I do not agree with him, however, when he writes:"Hope is a good breakfast but it is a bad supper." Not so- surely it is the best of suppers for those who need it. Another author writes:"Hope is like the sun which, as we journey towars it, casts the shadow of our burden behind us." And although some of our hopes can be false, others are not. So in difficult times and dark days, do keep hope warm in your heart.

Dear Nina: THE CHILD'S BELOVED OBJECT: I remember a story in our "Religious class" when young. The good teacher said," I want you to imagine that you have to leave home suddenly and set out on a dangerous journey. What would you take withy you? One of the older children suggested a Book of Dua, others a change of clothes, a raincoat, or a stout stick. But it was young Hanif, aged four, who shamed them all. "I know," he shouted. "I wouldn't need to take anything. I would ask MAWLA BAPA to come with me!"

THE QURAN - INHERITANCE OF THE IMAM-E-ZAMA'AN: The Holy Prophet (pbuh&hf) repeated even at the time of his demise saying: "I leave behind me Two Great Things: The Book of Allah and my Ahle Bait. If you adhere to these two, never, never shall you go astray after me; for verily these two will never be separated from one another until they meet me at the spring of Kauthar." It is upon the family of Muhammad that Alláh commands us to invoke blessings, saying: "Lo! Alláh and His angels shower blessings on the Prophet. O you who believe! Bless him and salute him with a worthy salutation" (Holy Qur'án 33:56) The Muslims asked the Holy Prophet, "How are we to salute you?" and he replied, "Say, 'O Alláh! Bless Muhammad and the Family of Muhammad (salwa’at)" Therefore, it is proved by this tradition that the salutation is not complete unless and until the Family of Muhammad is also saluted along with the Prophet. This is the reason that the learned men and research scholars have included the above-mentioned verse among those verses of the Holy Qur'án which praise the Ahl al-Bayt. Hence, they (the Imams) are the chosen servants of Alláh and they are the forerunners who hasten towards righteousness by the command of Alláh, and they (Imams)are the inheritors of the Book of Alláh concerning whom the Almighty says: Then We gave the Scripture as an inheritance unto those of Our servants whom We selected. But of them are some whom wrong themselves and some who take the middle path and some who surpass all others in their good deeds by Alláh's command. that is the great favor." (Holy Qur'án 35:32)

Dear Nina:WHAT IS THAT LIFE IF FULL OF CARE:We have no time to stand and stare: A familiar few lines from W.H.Davies, a Welshman born in 1871. He emigrated to United States aged 22, and lived partly as a tramp and partly as a casual workman, until the loss of a leg while jumping a train caused him to return to England. He then began to write poetry and books, and his "Autobiography Of a Super Tramp" was publsihed in 1908. He collected poems(about 600) were published three years after his death in 1943. Here is a story of man who struggled against the odds to gain eventually the recognition he so richly deserved. His observations throughout his life must have given him a deep understanding of human nature and love for countryside, time to appreciate the beauty of hus surroundings...something perhaps we all might learn to do.

Dear Nina: TRIBUTE TO WOMEN WHO WORK AND THOSE AT HOME: They can't all take the world by storm,, or do the bravest deed. There must be those, who stay at home, while others take the lead. They know they are relied upon, to do each daily chore. They can't all do things they wish, when others come before. But though they might not be renowned, or rise to starry heights; Let grateful thanks from those they love. soon put their world to rights!

Dear Nina:HOSPITALITY:A RELIGION AMONG BEDOUINS: The first World War, Col.Lawrance was the mnysterious man, who, throughout the duration of the Arab revolt, pulled the wires from Sharif Hussein and Amir Feisal. He it is who more than any other single individual, did so much for uniting the multifarious warring tribes and factions for fighting the Turks. The Turkish Government declared a reward of seven lac and fifty thousand rupees for capturing Lawrence. One day Lawrence was out in disguise for inspecting some Turkish lines and strayed into the area of Banu Shakr, a tribe that was loyal to its Turkish masters. He saw the Sheikh of the tribe and became his guest. The Sheikh became victim of temptation of rich reward and sent a courier to the Turks.Lawrence got the scent and fled. The people of Banu Shakr tribe felt disgraced at this violation of the rule of hospitality and compelled their Sheikh to drink a cup of poisoned coffee.

Dear Nina:RELY ON HIS COMPASSION AND LOVE: No matter how deeply hurt we are, No matter that life seems unfair;= We shouldn't quit fighting when all seem lost- Should never give way to despair:= Frustrated and angry and so alone, Emotions in turmoil and pain,= Seeking to shun the cold, hard world- yet Daring to hope once again.= Hope is essence when we have the will, which Inspires us with "get and go",= It opens up highways and byways once more, Uplifting depression and woe.= And Hope is the anchor extended to all- Most surely a gift from above,= Which holds for us, comfort on life's rough sea,THROUGH HIS(MAWLA'S) WONDEROUS COMPASSION AND LOVE.
