Eid-e-Ghadir is celebrated to mark the anniversary of a memorable event which took place at 'Ghadir-e-Khumm, when our Holy Prophet was returning to Medina from his Farewell Pilgrimage (Hajjat-ul-Wida).

'Ghadir-e-Khumm' is the name of a valley between Mecca and Medina. 'Ghadir' means 'a pond' and 'Khumm' means 'a valley'. 'Ghadir-e-Khum' therefore means 'a valley with a pond'.

It was at this place that our Holy Prophet made a halt and declared before a large gathering of 140,000 pilgrims that an important revelation had been received from Allah.

The revelation, as given in the Holy Qur'an, says: "O Prophet! Deliver to the people what has been revealed to you from your Lord; if you do not do so then you would not have delivered His message, and Allah will protect you from people (Who mean mischief); surely Allah will not guide the unbelievers." - (Sura 5 Ayat 67)

Here was a clear command from Allah to our Holy Prophet to deliver the Message. This revelation also carried a warning to Prophet Muhammad that if he failed to deliver the message his prophetic mission would remain incomplete. For the danger that our Holy Prophet feared in delivering the message, Almighty Allah assured him of His Divine Protection.

What could have been the important message which, if undelivered, would leave our Holy Prophet's work incomplete?

Could it be regarding Tauhid (Oneness of God), Nabuwwat (Prophethood), Qiyamat (Day of Judgment), Adalat (Divine Justice) or could it be concerning Namaz (Prayer), Roza (Fasting), Hajj (Pilgrimage) or any other religious or moral obligations?
